How to Access your H: drive from Anywhere

<Back to ICT Resources>

By installing a piece of software on your computer at home it is possible to access your H: drive from home.  This will enable you to retrieve files from your H: drive when you are at home, and also to place files from home onto your H: drive.  (It does not enable you to run or edit any file directly;  you must copy it to your home PC, work on it and then copy it (drag and drop) back to the special pseudo-H: drive location.)

This can be useful if you work both at the School and at home.  It is a much more secure way to transfer files between locations than by putting them onto a USB drive and risking the loss or theft of this before you arrive.

For this to work it requires that you obtain and install a special “client software” program called Ranger Outpost.  Ranger Outpost will run only on PCs.  It has not been written to run on a Mac.

1.       How to Obtain the Client Software

In order to obtain the latest version of the Ranger Outpost Client program click on the Download Ranger Outpost link on the ICT Resources part of the BSO intranet and then select:  Setup Outpost Client - British School of Osteopathy.exe

[  Download and Save the program to the Desktop of the computer (PC only) on which you need to install the Ranger Outpost Client program, by clicking on the “Setup Outpost Client” file in the list of files that appear when you click on the Download Ranger Outpost link.  ]
